SS: The Synchronizing Forces (Chp 1)

Chapter 1

“You can do it! You can do it, don’t worry, everything will be alright” muttered Khushi, under her breath, trying to calm herself down. Sitting in the make-up room, staring at her reflection on the mirror bordered with lights, only one thing flashed in her mind. A question. “Will I perform well today?” She was really nervous, so nervous that, she began to doubt her own abilities. As if it was a reflex, suddenly tears began to well up in her eyes.

“No. No. No. No. This is not happening” chirped Mehul. “I try to beautify your already beautiful eyes for two hours and you’re going to spoil it in minutes!” exclaimed Mehul, taking a tissue in her hand, trying to wipe off the tears without causing further damage to her masterpiece.

“I don’t know if I will do well today, Mehul. I know I’ve been waiting for this day all along, but today, I really am not ready…. I feel like I’m going to screw up!” complained Khushi in a sad, worried tone.

“Khushi, I’ve trained you. You’re a great performer and we both know it. Everyone who’s a big-artiste today has had a first performance. If all those people had backed off during that day, they wouldn’t have reached the peak. I know how it feels when you’re going to perform for the first time. I’m sure you won’t screw up!” smiled Mehul, trying to calm her down.

“I’m going to run miles away from this place!” thought Khushi to herself.

“Didn’t you hear what I just said? WE ARE NOT DOING THIS!” beamed Arnav on his Bluetooth, driving the car in a heavy traffic, cursing all the pedestrians who took ages to cross the road.

“But….. What’s the problem in designing Bridal Lehengas, Arnav? We can design all other types of clothes but not lehengas, why? I don’t understand!! What’s the point-” Varsha was cut off by Arnav before she could complete her sentence.

“First of all no ‘Arnav’s during business talks. It’s ASR. And secondly, I design clothes that match my thinking style. I design my passion. And not a cell in my brain tolerates marriage. You know that, Varsha! I’ve been trying to explain you this all along… Why don’t you understand?”

Knowing all her attempts were futile to make Arnav to comply on her idea of designing Bridal lehengas, she gave up. “Okay okay ASR” stressing the word ASR more than necessary. “So tell me what we’re going to design for the Summer collection.” questioned Varsha.

“We’ll…… Hey, I’m kind of busy right now… Can we discuss this when we meet now?” asked Arnav honking on the horn furiously.

“May I know what’s keeping you busy? And, are we meeting NOW? I seriously don’t remember meeting you today after office.” said Varsha in a thoughtful tone.

“What the…. Aren’t you ready? Don’t you remember the whole “ambassador search” thingy? You know that the next performer’s performance is today! What happened to you, Varsha! Unbelievable!” exclaimed Arnav in disbelief.

“Oh My Gosh! Arnav - er -ASR, I totally forgot about that! I’ll see you there…By the way…When is it starting?” asked Varsha, cursing herself for having forgotten the whole matter.

“Get ready soon! I want you there at 20minutes.” came a shout from the other end of the phone.

“Yeah, sure!” she cut off, throwing the phone on the bed and started to search for her outfit, in her already-messed-up closet.

Arnav, on reaching the destination, turned the engines off and felt the buzzing of the engines die. Adjusting his tie and coat, he mentally prepared himself for facing thousand flashlights from cameras and ignoring a bunch of irrelevant, pure non-sense questions from the reporters who never fail to make him angry and curse them.

“This time, it better be good.” He thought and stepped off the car.
